Burnley is a great place to live and work and I promise always to do my best for my constituents both in Burnley and at Westminster."

I am one of Kitty's constituents and I
would like to raise the following issue

Working hard for Burnley and Padiham

Kitty was elected to represent Burnley at the 2005 General Election taking over from Peter Pike who had represented Burnley for 22 years. She lives in Burnley with her husband Pete; their daughter Lizzie and recent addition George, who were both born in Burnley General Hospital.

Kitty's first priority is to her constituents. She holds regular surgeries in Burnley and around the borough and runs a fully staffed office in the centre of Burnley that is open from 10am until 5pm every weekday. In her first year as an MP she helped over a 1000 people with their issues and concerns.
Surgeries run throughout the year.

Kitty has also been involved in many local campaigns including the Save our Hospital Campaign, that in June 2006 saw a bus load of constituents, organised by the Burnley Express Newspaper, travel to Westminster to a meeting the Secretary of State for Health, Patricia Hewitt.

In Westminster, Kitty serves as Economic Secretary to the Treasury, in Gordon Brown's new Government, meaning that she is responsible for matters involving banking and finance, and is also involved in taxation as it impacts on these areas. In addition, she advises on economic policy and works with other treasury ministers on the Comprehensive Spending Review and finance bills.

Kitty previously worked as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Margaret Hodge, Ministy of State for Industry and Regions at the Department of Trade and Industry, and from 2005 - 2006 she was a member of the Public Accounts Committee that meets twice a week to scrutinise the activities of all Government departments. She has also served on a number of legislative bill committees as well as raising numerous issues concerning Burnley in the House.
