Kitty was elected to represent Burnley at the 2005 General Election taking over from Peter Pike who had represented Burnley for 22 years. In Burnley, she lives with her husband Pete just off Manchester Road; their children Lizzie and George were both born in Burnley General Hospital.
Kitty's first priority is to her constituents. She holds regular local surgeries and runs a fully staffed office in the centre of Burnley that is open from 10am until 4pm every weekday. She typically helps over a 1500 people with their issues and concerns per year.
In June 2009 Kitty announced that will be standing down from parliament and as Burnley MP at the next General Election. This is because she felt the huge demands of being a Member of Parliament are not compatible with the enjoyment of family life. In the meantime she will continue to hold her regular surgeries, take up cases for constituents and fight on the issues Burnley people care about.
Kitty a tireless local campaigner, regularly running high profile campaigns on behalf of her constituents. The largest of these by far was in support of Burnley General Hospital, where she collected 10,000 names on a petition, organised a rally in Burnley centre, and arranged for her constituents to put their case to the then Secretary of State for Health. Most recently she has called on the hospital bosses to move faster on the improvements they are promising. Join our campaign to improve Burnley General Hospital by clicking here

From 2005 - 2006 she was a member of the Public Accounts Committee that meets twice a week to scrutinise the activities of all Government departments.
