BURNLEY FOOTBALL CLUB GO FAIRTRADE!

Burnley Football club fans will soon be able to enjoy a drink of Fairtrade tea and coffee as Burnley Football Club have joined the campaign to make Burnley a Fairtrade Town and agreed to use Fairtrade products on match days and in their internal canteens and meetings.

The move to Fairtrade was unanimously approved at a recent meeting of the board of directors. Fairtrade coffee, tea and sugar will now be available with immediate effect, meaning that from today fans can enjoy not only the football but also the fact they are helping to do their small part to promote fair trade and alleviate poverty as they sip on a cup of Fairtrade coffee!

This move is fantastic news for Burnley’s Fairtrade campaign as Burnley Football Club is ones of the great and unique features of Burnley.

John Sullivan Director and Trustee of Leisure and Community and BFC States:
“Burnley Football Club is pleased to support the campaign ‘Making Burnley a Fairtrade Town’ and is very happy to announce that it will be using Fairtrade coffee, tea and sugar at Turf Moor. Buying ethically is something Burnley Football Club believes in and we were more than happy to add our support to Burnley’s Fairtrade campaign which has been headed by Kitty Ussher. I hope that more and more establishments will follow suit and sign up to Fairtrade”

This news is an important step forward in Kitty's campaign to make Burnley a Fairtrade Town. The campaign already has 9 cafes, 20 churches, 12 schools, 16 retail outlets and big employers such as Aircelle and the Burnley General Hospital signed up to using Fairtrade. All that’s needed to get Fairtrade Town Status now is for two more retail outlets to sell two Fairtrade items and for eight more schools to agree use Fairtrade tea and coffee in their staff room and at their meetings and to educate their pupils about Fairtrade.
