NHS ENQUIRIES TO LOCAL MP UP BY 5 PER CENT
- Kitty helps 350 people in last 3 months.

The number of health related issues being raised with Burnley's MP, Kitty Ussher, rose by 5 per cent in the second quarter of 2006, it was revealed today, following the release of her second quarterly constituency casework figures. This rise reflects the huge concern of local residents of the proposed changes to Burnley General Hospital.

The figures also show that Kitty has helped around 350 people with a wide variety of problems between April and June with health, housing and refuse problems top of her second quarterly casework 'league table'. This is equivalent to Kitty taking on around 30 new pieces of constituency casework each week.

In the three months between April and June, Kitty has seen over 150 constituents at the regular surgeries she holds across the Borough with other cases picked up on the doorstep or by letter, email and telephone calls direct to her Burnley office.

Kitty said:
"Helping people who have a problem or issue is a key part of my job and one I take very seriously. Before I was elected I promised to be an accessible MP who would try and sort out people's problems as quickly and efficiently as possible. Now every quarter I'll also let people know how I'm doing.

"Keeping a record of the number & type of cases being dealt with allows me not only to produce this quarterly information but in particular, it can act as an early warning that something is wrong if the number of cases involving a specific issue or agency suddenly rises. This is the second release this year of these types of figures and I am committed to continue providing this information to the public in this way."
