LOCAL MP JOINS GOVERNMENT TEAM

Burnley's local MP, Kitty Ussher, has been promoted in Westminster to the new role of Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to a government minister.

Although not a minister herself, this means that she is now formally part of the government and this role is seen as the first rung on the ladder.

Kitty is the first local MP to be part of the government since Dan Jones MP in the 1960s.

Kitty is the PPS to Margaret Hodge MP, Minister of State at the DTI with responsibility for industry (including manufacturing) and the regions.

Kitty said:

"I'm really delighted to be working in this area. The government's policies on manufacturing, industry and the regions have a direct effect on the lives of my constituents so I'm pleased to be able to play a little part myself in making sure that we do the right thing."
