LOCAL MP SUPPORTS CAFOD'S CAMPAIGN TO END EXPLOITATION IN GOLD INDUSTRY

Local MP for Burnley, Kitty Ussher MP, has pledged her support for the "Unearth Justice" campaign by Cafod to end exploitation of people and resources in the gold mining industry.

CAFOD's Unearth Justice campaign targets governments and businesses involved in extractive industries. Instead of suffering exploitation, health and environmental damage, poor communities should benefit from the wealth beneath their feet.

More information can be found at:
http://www.cafod.org.uk/get_involved/campaigning/unearth_justice

Kitty met with Cafod campaigners last week at the charity arch in
Burnley where members of the public were invited to sign postcards to international mining companies who are exploiting people in Honduras.

Kitty said:

"Gold is a precious resource and needs to be mined
responsibly. I want to see all companies to operate basic environmental and human rights standards whereever in the world they work. If we care about the conditions that people work in, we need to put pressure on these companies and that's why I support Cafod's campaign. I would urge people to get involved through their churches, or by logging on to
www.caford.org.uk"
