Local Burnley MP Kitty Ussher has today welcomed news from East Lancashire PCT that they are making substantial progress in reducing waiting lists for those in Burnley wishing to find an NHS dentist.
In a letter from David Peat, Chief Executive of the PCT, Kitty has been informed that the PCT are hoping that everyone currently on the dental access allocation list in Burnley will be offered an NHS dentist in the near future. This has come about because of Government changes in the way local health bosses can contract dentists to do NHS work and more dentists doing NHS work.
East Lancashire has been a Government priority area for improving dental access and the Government has invested over a million pounds in East Lancashire dental services over the past few years. This has helped create increased numbers of NHS dentist places and helped fund a number of new dental practices in Burnley and Padiham and expanded facilities at existing ones.
Kitty Ussher MP said,
"I am delighted that Government investment has helped local health bosses to improve dental services in Burnley and East Lancashire. I made it a priority when I was elected in 2005 to ensure that everyone who wanted an NHS dental placement could have access to one and I am glad the extra investment is now paying off."
"The news from the PCT that the waiting list will hopefully be cleared in the next few months is great news. Those wishing to go on the NHS dentist access allocation list should contact NHS Direct on 0845 46 47"
