26 January 2007
KITTY CALLS ON THE PRIME MINISTER TO MAINTAIN INVESTMENT IN BURNLEY POLICE.
Kitty Ussher, speaking at Prime Minister's Questions, called on Tony
Blair to recognise and congratulate the work of Burnley Police in
reducing crime - down 6% in last year alone. She also urged that
investment is not jeopardised by any unfunded or irresponsible tax cut.

In response the Prime Minister Stated:

'I can assure my hon. Friend that we will continue to invest in our
police services. The work that has been done in Lancashire is
remarkable: it has had an excellent record over the past few years.
Given all the criticism of the Home Office, it is worth pointing out
that crime has fallen, not risen, over the past 10 years. That
contrasts with the record of the Conservatives, who doubled crime and, in the
last few years before we came to office, cut the number of police. We have
record numbers of police officers, we have police and community support
officers, and we have falling crime.'

Speaking after Prime Minister's Questions Kitty Said:

'I am sure that most people are aware that investment in the Police has
increased in recent years but I think it is important to get assurances
on the parliamentary record that this investment will not be cut. I
want to see further reductions in crime in Burnley and we will only achieve this if we give our hardworking Police the money, legislation and resources they need to do the job.'
