Labour MP for Burnley, Kitty Ussher, in one of her first acts as Economic Secretary to the Treasury, has issued help and guidance to those thousands of people up and down the country who have been affected by the collapse of the money transfer company, First Solution. Based in the East End of London, the firm had a franchise in Burnley and many of Kitty's constituents have potentially lost money when the firm ceased trading.
Kitty said: " People who have potentially lost money through the collapse of First Solution need to do two things straight away. First they should register their interest with the insolvency practitioners Panos Eliades Franklin & Co on 020 8815 4000. Second they should contact the charity, the Sir William Beveridge Foundation which I am delighted has offered help to those who have lost money, to make sure they register for help. The phone number to contact is 0845 6022548. Those affected should do this immediately”
"The charity is also accepting donations from those who want to help the victims of this company's collapse. I will be making a personal donation and would encourage others to do the same by calling 0845 6022548 for details.
"In the longer term, my department, the Treasury, has already agreed to introduce tougher regulations for this sector. And in the meantime the Companies Investigation Branch of the Insolvency Service is undertaking its own investigation into the events leading up to the company's collapse. If any evidence of illegal activity is uncovered as part of this, the files will of course be passed to the police."
Burnley's MP last week responded to a debate initiated by East London MPs on this issue, one of her first appearances in the House of Commons as a minister. In the process she expressed her sympathy for her constituents and others up and down the country who have been affected by the company's collapse and thanked in particular Burnley councillor Shah Hussain for the work he has done in representing the views of the local community."
