Kitty Ussher MP, visited Hameldon Community College last Friday for a chance to meet with pupils and staff. The newly elected prefects of the school put Kitty under the spot light questioning her about her role as an MP, both in Parliament and in her constituency, and about the current issues of the day. Top things on their agenda included, education, hospitals and the cleanliness of Burnley.
The students explained what their role as school prefects would entail and took time to inform Kitty of the progress being made within school with education and cohesion. Overall, the pupils reported that there were problems to begin with but now things were improving and that the effect was being felt around the school.
Kitty also briefly met with Gill Broom, who updated her on the progress being made within the school.
Kitty Said:
“It was refreshing to here what the pupils had to say about the changes that the school had undergone and I was very glad to here that the pupils were happy with the progress that was being made.”
“I also found it very encouraging that the pupils were interested and engaged with issues not just within their school but had something to say about issues affecting their town – I think they will be a great asset to their school and I wish them every success in their role of prefect.”
