Kitty to meet frontline Ambulance Crews
Burnley MP, Kitty Ussher is to meet with frontline ambulance crews to hear their views on hospital bosses proposals to create a single specialist emergency department for the whole of East Lancs which will be based in Blackburn. The meeting, which was organised at Kitty's request, will take place from 12noon on Monday 15 May at Burnley Ambulance Station, Trafalgar Street, Burnley BB11 1TQ.
Kitty will be met at the station by Mary Whyham, Chairman of Lancashire Ambulance Service and Ian Walmsley, Operations Manager for East Lancashire who will take Kitty on a short tour of the station and its facilities. Following this Kitty will meet, without any management present, with an expected 12-15 frontline ambulance staff to hear what they think of hospital bosses proposals.
Kitty said:
"I remain unconvinced at the moment by hospital bosses claims that their proposals will improve health outcomes for my constituents. They and senior clinicians are saying that within limits, increased journey times are less important than the service patients receive on arrival at hospital and that this would be much improved under their new proposals. However, I am hearing different views from many frontline staff throughout the NHS and I'm looking forward to hearing what ambulance crews in Burnley think."
This meeting is just one of a number Kitty is organising to get the views of NHS staff throughout East Lancs and further afield. The formal consultation on the future of hospital services in East Lancashire, called 'Making it Better' runs until 10 July 2006.
