KITTY USSHER MP BACKS PLAN FOR NEW YOUTH SERVICES IN BURNLEY
- Kitty wants to hear from young people on where funds could be spent
New facilities for young people in Burnley could be built under Government plans to invest in youth services across England.
Kitty Ussher MP today welcomed proposals that will pave the way for long-lasting investment in local youth facilities. If the plans were passed by Parliament, local communities could bid for funding to improve what’s on offer to young people in Burnley.
The Government proposes that unclaimed assets would be managed by the Big Lottery Fund as a separate and distinct funding stream.
Kitty said:
“Young people in Burnley need more support. We need to offer more activities and places to go that appeal to them, so I’m delighted that the Government is pledging to make major investment in youth services.”
“I want our area to benefit and over the coming months I want to hear from young people and local community organisations about what facilities they would like to see available in the future. It should be up to them to decide what our area needs and draw up proposals for funding, whether that’s for sports facilities, places where they can take part in activities like dance, drama and music, mobile youth centres or skate parks.”
“Once the plans are passed by Parliament and the scheme is fully up and running then I want Burnley to be quick off the mark with our bid for funding.”
“The idea is to create a lasting legacy for the communities in Burnley, creating assets to benefit current and future generations. I am sure that new facilities that appeal to young people in the town will prove to be another valuable part of our renewed and regenerated communities.”
Funding for new youth services are part of Government plans to reinvest in local communities unclaimed assets that have been lying dormant in bank and building society accounts for at least 15 years.
