Kitty Ussher recently visited St Joseph's Parkhill School to join in with the schools special advent assembly, which aims to help the children prepare and celebrate Christmas.
Each class at the school had been opening special advent calendars which gave them 'a good deed' to do each day, such as helping a friend. This theme was the main focus of the assembly with children talking to Kitty about the different ways they were preparing for Christmas. These included being nice to friends and being peacemakers within their family and community groups.
Kitty also talked to the assembly about her role as an MP and joined in with the lighting of the second advent candle.
The assembly was run by the reception class and some of the children dressed up in Christmas costumes, such as Mary and Joseph, for the occasion.
Kitty said:
"I'm so glad that I was able to attend St Josephs special advent assembly. The children had done a wonderful job in preparing for Christmas and looking at different ways to spread peace and be good friends. Christmas is about being with the people most dearest to us and spreading goodwill and happiness to others, and I was so impressed with the way the children at St Josephs had been doing that. ”
